Instructor: April Cooper
Tuition: $215 or sliding scale
In this class, students will weave, knit, sew, learn embroidery stitches, crochet, and so much more! Kids are never bored when fabric and threads are around! We will learn about contemporary artists working with textiles today, and some favorites throughout history including Nick Cave, Judith Scott, Faith Ringgold, Bisa Butler, El Anatusi, Victoria Villasana and Pia Camil. We will learn how these artists use fibers to tell a story and many times to bring awareness to social and global issues. We will also learn about Navajo weavers and other native American textile arts, and we will make an original dream catcher. To top it all off, students will get to sew on a sewing machine to make original works of art!
