Kennedy Heights Arts Center is proud to present a two person show titled Color Breathing: The Work of Lyric Morris-Latchaw and Casey Dressell, running from June 10 to August 12, 2023 in the Kennedy Gallery located at 6546 Montgomery Road.

The public is invited to the Opening Reception on Saturday, June 10 from 6-8pm. Free, open to the public, light refreshments served.

Color Breathing is an exhibition that features an experiential, immersive environment that engages the senses through painted imagery, natural materials, and thoughtful color. The exhibition includes traditional wall paintings and paintings suspended from the ceiling, and engages the space in surprising ways to create an immersive environment to welcome the viewer in, invoking a feeling of curiosity much like being surrounded by the natural world.

Lyric remarks, “My paintings are optimistic portraits of plants that imagine a world beyond climate change. Paired with Casey’s more abstract and immersive work, we hope visitors feel like they have stepped into a whole new world when they enter the exhibition.”

Paintings are enveloped by large-scale installations made of painted sticks, rocks, and found objects from nature, blurring the lines between fine art and the natural world. Color Breathing is a meditation on the present moment and the sense of well-being that comes from experiencing a sense of peace and harmony when spending time in nature.

“I am interested in the intersections of art and craft, nature and the built environment and explore how contemporary art can lend to multiple means of constructing and understanding one’s environment,” reflects Casey.

There will also be a Gallery Talk on Saturday, June 24 starting at 1:00pm.

As an extension of this exhibition, Lyric and Casey will lead participants in a nature-based community art project during Play in the Park on Wednesday, June 21 from 6:30-8pm at Kennedy Heights Park, located at 6039 Kennedy Avenue.
