We carry so much on a daily basis that lingers in our minds, hearts and spirits. It can be heavy to keep it all inside. This 6-week workshop series beginning February 23rd offers an opportunity to let it out onto the page in community. Allow this space to be a place you can exhale and embrace vulnerability.
Paper and pen will be provided. Bring yourself and an open heart and mind.
As our 2026 Artist-in-Residence, Jamie-Lee will lead these sessions to provide participants with tools for creative expression and personal introspection. Through guided writing prompts, readings, and reflective discussion, participants will explore themes of identity and growth. The workshop is designed to welcome writers of all levels, from beginners to experienced poets, and will foster a supportive environment where participants can share their work, gain confidence, and build community connections.
This residency will culminate in a free and public open mic event in Kennedy Heights Arts Center’s performance hall on Saturday, April 11 at 7:30pm (doors at 7:00pm). In a poetry café-style setting with live music and refreshments, workshop participants will share their work alongside seasoned regional spoken word artists. By blending intensive workshop experiences with a celebratory community event, the project ensures that participants not only develop their craft but also gain the confidence to share their stories in a public forum.
Attendance is free, but registration is required as space is limited. Please commit to attending all 6 sessions for the group you sign up with. Open to anyone ages 14+.
