Deliver Joy for an older adult this holiday season
We could all use some joy right now.
This is especially true for older adults. Due to the increased risk factors COVID-19 poses for older adults, many seniors are staying safe by self-quarantining at home or in senior living communities. Unfortunately, social isolation—while beneficial from a physical health standpoint during the pandemic— has the potential of causing loneliness which can lead to depression, anxiety or other health problems.
Kennedy Heights Arts Center and Episcopal Retirement Services (ERS) have teamed up to combat social isolation and deliver joy to our region’s seniors this holiday season—and you can help.
“We are entering a particularly difficult season when older adults may not be able to spend the holidays with family and friends,” said Kennedy Heights Arts Center executive director Ellen Muse-Lindeman. “Art can be a great way to connect with others in a personal and uplifting way.”
You are invited to create a handmade gift and personalized card for an older adult in need. With your donation of $45, you will receive a Joy Delivery kit including all materials and instructions to make a handcrafted item and card. Create the items at home, then drop it off to be delivered to a senior living in one of the ERS communities–or purchase a kit to give to an elderly neighbor or other senior you know.
Three kits are available: a ceramic mug, soap and dish, or fleece scarf. Each kit also includes materials for making a handmade card with personalized greeting, and edible treats. All projects are easy to do and no artistic experience is necessary.
Kits are $45 (to cover the cost of materials). Curbside pick-up and drop-off is available at Kennedy Heights Arts Center, 6546 Montgomery Rd.
Once completed, customers are asked to drop off their box to the Arts Center during business hours to be packaged and delivered by volunteers. Drop off deadlines are: December 5, 12 and 19. Hours of operation are Wednesdays-Fridays, 10am to 5pm and Saturdays, 11am to 4pm.
If you can’t afford to donate $45, but would like to help, contact us to receive a sponsored kit or to volunteer to help package the Joy Deliveries.
Would you like to sponsor a kit to be made by someone else? Simply place an order online and note your sponsorship in the comment box!
“We are so excited to partner with the Kennedy Heights Art Center to provide a little extra joy to our elders,” said Laura Lamb, President and CEO of ERS. “While many of our residents have been limited in their interactions with the community since last March, this is a great opportunity to connect with our neighbors in Kennedy Heights and the Cincinnati area in a meaningful way.”
