This is a course covering the fundamentals of drawing – from measuring and proportion, to perspective, to shading and detail. Beginning students will get a strong foundation in drawing that they can use to develop their skills and interests through future classes, or on their own; experienced students will get a crash course in basics and the opportunity to strengthen and hone their abilities in observational drawing.
Students will work primarily with pencil and charcoal, practicing techniques in shading and blending from a range of subjects including Still Life, portraiture, and personal photographs.
Supplies needed for the class:
Smooth white drawing paper: 9×12 – 11-14
Charcoal or pastel paper in white, gray, or neutral tones: same size
drawing pencils: a set ranging from light to dark, emphasizing darker values
erasers: large, hard eraser, and preferably a kneaded eraser
Blenders (or tortillons).
