Ice Dyeing Workshop
taught by Nancy Gamon
Saturday, November 17 & Sunday, November 18, 2018
1:30 – 4:30 pm each day
$35 + ($20 materials fee) = $55 registration fee
Create luscious designs on soft bamboo scarves using powdered dye and melting ice cubes! Ice dyeing is a fascinating technique; dye melts into the fabric, resulting in delicate whispers of color. You’ll learn several different design methods and choose your favorites to make two unique scarves.
This is a 2-session workshop. On Saturday, we will prepare our scarves and leave them overnight for the ice to melt and the colors to set. On Sunday, we’ll return to the classroom for the rinse and reveal. (You’ll sign up for a time slot between 1:30-4:30 that day, to help stagger usage of the sink.)
No previous experience with dye is required. This workshop involves standing, bending, and repetitive hand work (squeezing and wringing).
Class is best suited for Teens & Adults.
Supply fee includes everything you need: 2 ready-to-dye 100% bamboo scarves, mordant (soda ash), rubber gloves, ice, fiber reactive dye, textile detergent, color fixative, trays, pans and water.
Part of the class will take place outside. Please wear old clothes as powdered dye could possibly blow onto your clothing. Aprons are available for added protection.
Dye additional scarves for $10 each (limit 2 per student). If interested, you will be purchasing these additional scarves on the day of the workshop.
Financial Assistance only applies to workshop fee ($35), not materials cost.
