Ages 12 – Adult. Instructor: Beth Goldstein. This 8 week class will guide students through the experimentation and discovery of Collage as fine art. We will reference and discuss art history and artists who have employed collage as their main medium or incorporated it in their work (Romare Beardon, Robert Rauschenburg, Louise Nevelson Joseph Cornell, Matisse, Man Ray, and George Braque – to name just a few). This class will be far different from the days of cut construction paper and school glue. Composition, shape, form, color and texture are some of the principles of art and design that will be part of our discovery of collage making. Students will produce several complete pieces during the course, which we will also properly mat and preserve.
Most materials provided but students will be asked to look for and bring to the class to use &/or share additional materials they like or that are especially fitting to their own projects. In addition, other mediums will be discussed as they relate to collage and image/art making and can be brought to class or made available for use. No previous experience required!
