Teen Artists for Change (TAC) is a club for diverse young artists in grades 7-12, who want to use their creative skills to make an impact in their community. TAC provides outlets for teens to work together to plan and implement creative projects that matter to them. Mentored by professional artists, teens develop skills and express their voices through community art projects such as exhibits, public art installations, and films.

TAC meets weekly on Saturdays from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, producing three projects in collaboration with professional artists throughout the year. Teens will explore and utilize various forms of art-making such as ceramics, photography, video production, creative writing, drawing and painting, and digital design. We will accept new members at the beginning of each term (fall, winter, spring) and require that students commit to the full term.

This winter students will work with the Silent Poet, Desirae Hosley. In this workshop, Social Therapy: Voices Ignited, students will use art (poetry, prose, visual art, music, and movement)to investigate the themes around self-reflection and the discovery of one’s voice. Students will learn to compose their thoughts into lyrical works that are insightful and expressive. They will be introduced to works of poetry by local artists and be guided in a mindfulness yoga session. Students will also engage with visual art materials to further develop the ways they want to express themselves. Finally, this project will calumniate with a final display of their collective art.

Teen Artists for Change is a free program due to generous support from the Charles H. Dater Foundation.

All participants need to complete and submit an Emergency Contact and Photo Release. Completed forms can be emailed to classes@kennedyarts.org or dropped off in-person at KHAC.
