Young at Art: Fine Art Fundamentals (ages 5-8)

In this 8-week visual art series, students will learn fine art fundamentals from two dynamic teaching artists: E. Barber and Christine Langford. Through drawing and painting, young artists will explore key elements and principles of art—like line, shape, color, space, and more—while developing their own expressive characters, imaginative environments, and original artworks. Each Saturday builds on essential skills, offering hands-on projects that grow confidence, creativity, and artistic technique.

Weekly Schedule & Topics
September 20 – Line, Shape & Texture with E. Barber
Build drawings from simple marks while learning how line, shape, and texture bring ideas to life.

September 27 – Proportion, Balance & Emphasis with E. Barber
Design expressive faces and characters using strong composition and visual focus.

October 4 – The Warm and Cool of It with Christine Langford
Explore how artists use color to create mood and contrast and blend your own warm/cool tones in watercolor.

October 11 – “Emphasis” Mine with Christine Langford
Discover how to create a focal point using line, shape, and color in a bold, expressive drawing.

October 18 – What’s Your Perspective? with Christine Langford
Use size, placement, and overlapping to create space and depth in your artwork.

October 25 – Form, Contrast & Pattern with E. Barber
Invent creatures by mixing animals and exploring form, pattern, and visual contrast.

November 1 – Space, Perspective & Unity with E. Barber
Draw imaginative environments and full scenes using basic perspective and unified composition.

November 8 – Composition, Color & Movement (E. Barber)
Complete a final artwork that tells a story—then present your piece in a celebratory mini art show!

CANCELLATION POLICY: Tuition is non-refundable, but can be transferred to another course if the student withdraws at least five days prior to the beginning of the program.
