What Was / What Is

The exhibition What Was/What Is explores the “reality by proxy” world of “what was” as it had existed in T.V. and movies of the past, and finding the meaning that connects it to the “what is” of small town America. 

Much like how marionette players control the shadows being cast on a screen, television and old movies behaved very much in the same manner by controlling the viewer’s perceptions and paradigms of the world –  through the hyperreality world they created. Through a series of contrasted photographs and still images from television and movies, Cincinnati photographer Will Jones allows viewers to explore this hyperreality.
